Basic Info
Name:Tortuga
Location:Reno, Nevada / Santiago, Chile
Bio
I'm stealing this from my fellow study abroad friend [info]wonderlustqueen because I can... also, it's a good idea.

Who are you?
I am Siobhan. Ahaha, yes, very original, saying my name there. I'm from tiny town, Nevada, but I've moved to the Biggest Little City in the World: Reno. I was the valedictorian of my high school class of 22, and I'm on the Dean's list at Nevada. I'm double majoring in Spanish and Speech Communications. I've been in Reno/at UNR for a year, but I'll be a junior when I leave for Chile. I'm half Irish, quarter German, and a quarter whatever. Oh, and I'm kind of crazy.

What's this all about?
This is my public journal for my year studying Spanish in Santiago, Chile. It's gonna be crazy! I'm moving to a huge South American city when all I've ever lived in and really known is small time Nevada. (With the exception of a little summer school in Washington, D.C.) I'm going through the University Studies Abroad Consortium, which is, surprisingly, the sixth largest study abroad program in the United States. Impressive because it's run out of Reno.

Why Spanish?
Well, my grandparents speak it. My favorite teacher ever was my high school Spanish teacher. Oh, and it's dead useful. Especially when listening to people who don't think I understand what they're saying because I'm very obviously a white girl.

Why Chile?
Well, I applied to go to Alicante, Spain; however, I was convinced to go to South America. Penguins were one of the deciding factors. There's a ton of culture, a beach, mountains, and more opportunities for me to speak Spanish.

What's the username mean?
I'm a girl who's going to Chile, so there's Chilena (Yes, I know I'm not Chilean). Then Tortuga came from my high school Spanish class. We had to pick Spanish names to be known by, so I picked Tortuga. I've been thinking I'll use it in Chile because it's a lot easier to say than "Siobhan".
I also have another journal [info]onoodlemantra, but that's mostly friend locked because of an unpleasant incident. This one's all public.
